Much Ado About Nothing

  • LAPD can have Manson-related tapes, judge rules

Manson follower Charles 'Tex' Watson waived attorney-client privilege over the decades-old taped conversations with his lawyer when he allowed them to be sold to a writer, judge rules.

  • Charles Manson follower allegedly tried to smuggle phone to killer
  • Gov. Brown blocks parole of Manson family follower Bruce Davis
  • Susan Atkins dies at 61; imprisoned Charles Manson follower
A federal judge has ruled that the Los Angeles Police Department can have 40-year-old taped conversations between one of Charles Manson's most fervent followers and his late attorney to see if they can help solve more murders.
U.S. District Court Judge Richard A. Schell ruled Sunday that Charles "Tex" Watson waived his right to attorney-client privilege when he allowed the lawyer to sell the tapes to an author who wrote a book about Watson, who was convicted of several murders.
LAPD robbery-homicide detectives are seeking the tapes because they believe that during the several hours of conversations, Watson "may have discussed additional unsolved murders committed by followers of Charles Manson."
Investigators believe the so-called Manson family may have been responsible for more than the nine murders they were convicted of four decades ago. Over the years, everyone from Manson himself to his prosecutors have said his followers were connected to more killings.
The judge's ruling affirms a bankruptcy judge's decision last year that the LAPD can have the tapes of Watson and attorney Bill Boyd, who died in 2009. The tapes were found when Boyd's old law firm filed for bankruptcy. Watson, however, appealed that ruling, claiming they were privileged.
Schell, however, said Watson's decision to sell the tapes to Chaplain Ray, Watson's coauthor of the 1978 book "Will You Die for Me? The Man Who Killed for Charles Manson Tells His Own Story" waived his attorney-client privilege. The judge also noted that Watson was by his own motion willing to allow police to hear the tapes but not take them.
LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith said the LAPD will send detectives to Texas to pick up the tapes once Watson's 30 days to appeal the decision expire.
"We are looking forward to getting these tapes and thoroughly analyzing their content," he said. "We owe it to the victims and their families to ensure every facet of the case is thoroughly and completely investigated."
Watson has denied the tapes will reveal any additional killings. He is serving a life sentence for killing actress Sharon Tate and four others.
Manson prosecutor Stephen Kay said Manson bragged about additional murders. Over the years, questions have persisted about a man's apparent suicide in England, the drowning of an attorney in Ventura County and whether bodies are buried at the California ranches the cult called home.
The murders for which the Manson family were convicted all occurred in the summer of 1969. In late July, Gary Hinman, 34, a musician, was stabbed to death. About a week later in early August, four Manson followers — Watson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel and Linda Kasabian — made their way to the Benedict Canyon estate rented by Tate and her husband, director Roman Polanski. There they killed Tate, 26; Steven Parent, 18; Jay Sebring, 35; Voytek Frykowski, 32; and coffee heiress Abigail Folger, 25.
Later, Manson himself entered the Los Feliz home of Leno LaBianca, 44, owner of a small supermarket chain, and his 38-year-old wife, Rosemary, and tied them up. He left them to die at the hands of Watson, Krenwinkel and Leslie Van Houten, who wielded knives and forks from the LaBianca kitchen. Spahn Ranch hand Donald "Shorty" Shea was killed later and his body concealed on the ranch for years.
Schell's ruling came as a follower of Manson, Craig Carlisle Hammond, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of trying to smuggle a cellphone into Corcoran State Prison for the 78-year-old Manson, who has been caught twice before with a cellphone. Hammond was arrested on three charges and faces a court date next month.

Gray Wolf

A follower of Charles Manson has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle a cellphone to the cult leader at Corcoran State Prison
Craig Carlisle Hammond, 63, was arrested Sunday on charges of possession of an illegal communication device, attempting to bring a cellphone into a prison and conspiracy, said Terry Thornton, a California Department of Corrections and Rehabiltation spokeswoman.
Hammond, a retiree, was searched and subsequently arrested at 3:35 p.m. and taken to a King County Jail, where he was released four hours later on $30,000. He is due in court next month.

Thornton said the device was a wrist watch cellphone and was discovered by guards after Hammond entered an area where he possession of such devices is prohibited.
Hammond, who goes by the name Gray Wolf given to him by Manson, is a regular visitor to Manson, the mastermind of the one the most notorious killing sprees in U.S. history -- the Tate-Bianca murders in Los Angeles.
Manson has been caught with a cellphone in his cell twice. Manson called people in California, New Jersey and Florida with an LG flip phone found under his prison bunk in March 2009. For the offense, 30 days were  added to his sentence. The cult leader was again found with a cellphone in his cell Jan. 6, 2011.

That fall, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a Senate bill that makes it a misdemeanor to possess an unauthorized cellphone in prison or to try to take one into a prison. Violators face up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.
The proliferation of cellphones in prisons is a significant public safety concern, officials say. Inmates have run street gangs from behind bars, intimidated witnesses and orchestrated assaults on guards, they said. In 2011, 15,000 cellphones were found inside prisons.
Manson, 78, is technically eligible for parole but will almost certainly die in prison for ordering the ritualistic murders of Sharon Tate and six other people in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969.
Manson sees few visitors, but Hammond is among his regulars. Hammond controls a copyright on Manson's music and is a self-described follower of the the inmate.
A Manson website maintained by followers and believers of Manson's ATWA group --an acronym for Air, Trees, Water, Animals -- reported that Gray Wolf was detained at Level 4 visitation entrance. According to the website, Manson was meeting with another friend when Gray Wolf was detained by guards. Manson and the two visitors were subsequently searched and the two visitors also consented to their vehicles being searched. Gray Wolf was then taken into custody and asked for a lawyer, according to the website.

Orca Spews

The Official Inbred Blog reminds us this week of Orca Tate by re-posting an interview done with Marine Life.

In the interview Orca bleats-

"DT:   My webmaster runs facebook for me.  I haven’t done it myself.  I’m scared due to the fact that I get at least four death threats a year.  I don’t want to taint anything to do with Sharon with this negativity.  Now these threats have been around whether I’m on facebook or not.  They have always managed to find their way to me.  Also, I have many crazy stalkers and imposters and people who try to say I’m not a member of my own family.  It’s all absolutely absurd.  It all hurts my feelings."

So now, the questions-

1- Has anyone actually threatened Orca with death?   I mean why bother, it would be like threatening a crazy cat lady.  I don't believe this has EVER happened much less "at least four times a year."

2- Heh heh she said "Taint".

3- Has anyone ever stalked Orca?  Why?  Ambergris?

4- Orca, THE COL, ME, ME ME ME I say you were disowned by your family.  I say it. I say you were disinherited, you own no part of Sharon Tate, you torture your father by withholding his final resting place.  I say it.  The WILL says it.  Alisa Statman says it.  Patti's kids say it.  But we are all wrong.  Well, Orca, it should be EASY.  Prove it!  Answer the questions.  I will still pay for the lie detector test.

Otherwise, so much for your hurt feelings.

Immediate Family Only

Hi there.  The Col is back from an hour reading the inbred LS8 blog and listening to them argue about why Bruce Davis should have been released.  Did you know you could actually feel your brain cells whither and die while reading that blog?  The Col still encourages every blog out there, the more the merrier.  But when you name yourself and your blog after a redneck Southern Rock band which supported the Confederate flag, surely it isn't because you want to do serious research about TLB!?  Of course not.

This seems to be the blog where the loons go to fly.  Mr. Poirot has a wide berth over there if you know what I'm saying.  I just read a bunch of their posts and comments about Bruce Davis.  They seem to be trying to insult the governor for not freeing him for all sorts of reasons.  Of course there is one good reason not to free him-

He KILLED somebody!

So we aren't here to support Bruce.  I have told you that he is not getting out.  Punk is gonna die in prison.  His wife figured that out, what haven't the inbreds?

The Col is much more interested in Debra Tate (Orca) and Barbara Hoyt (Orcette).  See Bruce and the girls can lie their asses off at every hearing and they do.  But they are where they belong.  Debra and Barbara lie their asses off in every hearing and pretend they don't.  They also contribute to the confusion about the case and that the Col does not abide.

So the Col got a very well researched email from a member of the research crew who cares about the truth.  Guess who's been lying to the Parole Board?  You're gonna be shocked!

----
Hi Colonel!

I am so incensed that Debra Tate and Barbara Hoyt were allowed to represent Gary Hinman's family at Bruce's parole hearing that I decided to write to Davis' attorney and tell him what I knew about Gary's family.  See the email I sent him below.  He wrote back that because the Governor did not overrule the parole board on anything to do with Tate and Hoyt's being at the hearing it would not be grounds for an appeal.  But he was very interested in what I sent him.  He does not like Tate and Hoyt any more than you or I like them.  He said that he would certainly use the info for the next hearing in mid 2014 particularly if the DA's office trots those two out again.

Beckman and I exchanged a couple of emails and then asked me what I knew about Tate and Hoyt, if I could dig up anything on them.  I was able to find some stuff on Hoyt, she has had numerous civil cases against her in Idaho where she lives.  They are all because she owed money she didn't pay, had her wages garnished etc.  She's a huge deadbeat.

I will send you what I found on Hoyt in another email.
What doubly pisses me off is that the LA DA's office is the instigator in having Tate and Hoyt at that hearing.  They knew damn well how Gary's sister felt about things!

Mr. Beckman

I am writing you in regards to the victim witness situation for Bruce Davis's last parole hearing. There were two people who spoke on behalf of the Hinman family, one of those persons was Debra Tate who was supposedly there for a first cousin of Gary Hinman.  The reason it was claimed for a cousin submitting a statement was that no one else was alive. This is simply not true!  Both of Gary Hinman's sisters are still alive.

I am attaching a number of things to support this fact.  First is Robert Hinman's, Gary's father, obituary naming his survivors. (the first two daughters in his obituary are Gary's sisters, the second two daughters are Robert's step daughters, his second wife's children from a previous marriage. Gary's mother died a few months after he did, Robert remarried after that.)

Second and third attachments are Been Verified reports on both of the sisters. I have done social security death index searches on both women and neither of them are listed as having died.  Barbara Jean Hinman apparently has some competency issues as I found a law case where this was discussed.  It was a case about an easement issue involving sister Carole as well.

I also found something regarding Carole Hinman Romberg and her feelings on testifying at a parole hearing for Bobby Beausoleil.  She had moved on and did not wish to be involved any longer, according to her daughter who answered the request from the LA County DA's office informing Carole of her right to speak at the hearing.  I'm pretty sure you would be able figure out which of Carole's daughters answered the request from the DA's office from the pdf with Carole's info.  The parole hearing of Beausoleil's is at this link and is on page 86 of the document.  It is Beausoleil's 2010 hearing if the link does not work.

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:STuHfjpmNREJ:www.cielodrive.com/transcripts/BobbyBeausoleil2010Parole.pdf+&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESjIbD891_X1O22-W1Tue2D7K5qjHFmcEVEtv73Wduaqn1XVBLmWqj1zjnQliYHUAaeS4hYTC4SLwOWm_fyhCACY091YakLlZmJ_-m7qOzb4GTXFqmNEX4F92LF1ZlWCXcXD1SGu&sig=AHIEtbR2j6Qa4Zoiab61A87CFygkWwjdfQ

I also have some information about some of Gary Hinman's first cousins on his mothers side of the family.  None of the first cousins names match the names of the people being represented by Debra Tate and the other person.  This is an obituary for Gary's aunt.

http://www.postindependent.com/article/20021011/OBITUARIES/210100028

Gary's father had one sister, Margaret Elizabeth Hinman, her married name was Chapman.  She was born in 1903 in Colorado and died in 1991 in California, where she had lived for decades.  Below are the death index records for her.  I believe her husband's first name was Hilton, although I am not entirely certain of that.  I did find a death record for a Hilton Chapman who was from Colorado and died in California in 1963.  Margaret Hinman Chapman got her social security number in 1963 in California, so that kind of fits.

I was able to locate a 1940 census record for Margaret and Hilton Chapman.  They lived Colorado in that census.  There were no children listed on that census report.  If the person claiming to be a first cousin named Kay Martley was Margaret's daughter she should have been on that census as Kay Martley is 75 years old.  See fourth attachment.

I am not a forensic genaologist so can not guarantee total accuracy of all this information but I am experienced with doing this type of research.  I would suggest that you have someone else blindly try to replicate what I have learned for verification.  There should be grounds for an appeal I would think.

Respectfully

Therein follows much information about legal claims against Barbara Hoyt (Clayborn) who does appear to have problems paying her bills.  Too bad the book with Nellie/Molesto never panned out!

Anyway, The DA needs to address this.  Are these two attention seeking, burger inhaling, father ashes hoarding beached  whales lying to the government?  Since when do the wishes of a first cousin trump the wishes of a sister?

BUG Swatting

We heard not too long ago on TMZ of all places that the BUG was very sick.  Now Sadie was sick and still breathed oxygen I could have used for almost three years before she rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible.  So for all I know the BUG will outlast the COL and then some. We all saw Sandy Hook and know first hand there is no justice in this world.

Now I don't expect that the solution we seek will magically appear a day, a week or even a year (cue FRIENDS music) after the old mistress puncher is morte.  But I wonder.  The fiction was maintained so well all these years.  The mysterious Tom O'Neill of the unseen opus told me over a decade ago he had found the true motive, but we ain't seen nothing from him except hearsay lawyer tapes leaked to FOXYCUDA!  I was sure that one more martini with Aaron Stovitz would have been the breakthrough but then he went and passed on me.  The facts remain- in a world where if two people know a secret then that secret is kaput, a true, realistic version of why the TLB murders happened remains the Holy Grail.

I am not saying that I think people have been mum because they are afraid that a milkman stalking, Latin music listening Lawyer might sue them for shits and giggles. Wait, yes I am.  Clearly many of the participants were out of their minds high and thought after the fact that yeah, it was a race war thing, that's the ticket.  But somebody has to know the answer.  Bryn maybe? Tex? Bruce?  Some random fucker knows and isn't talking.  That has to be the case or I'll cry.

I am not wish the BUG to die. I don't have that power.  But yeah, when he does I do wonder what it will mean for the truth.

COL Called It

Gov. Brown blocks parole of Manson family follower Bruce Davis Brown is the second governor to go against a parole board's decision to free the convicted killer, who is now 70. Davis' lawyer said he will probably appeal.

Bruce Davis Bruce Davis has served more than 40 years for two murders connected to the Manson family. (California Department of Corrections / January 29, 2013)  Manson family member By Paige St. John, Los Angeles Times March 1, 2013, 10:08 p.m. SACRAMENTO — Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday blocked parole for Bruce Davis, a former follower of notorious killer Charles Manson. Brown said in his written decision he did not believe Davis, who is in prison for taking part in two Manson family murders, "was just a reluctant follower who passively went along with the violence." "Until Davis can acknowledge and explain why he actively championed the family's interests and shed more light on the nature of his involvement," Brown went on, "I am not prepared to release him." FOR THE RECORD: An earlier version of this article said Bruce Davis was convicted for his role in the killing of aspiring musician George Hinman. The victim's name was Gary Hinman. This is the second time Davis has been granted parole and then had it overturned by a governor. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010 cited similar reasons for keeping the convicted murderer imprisoned. A state appeals court ultimately upheld that decision. Davis' lawyer, Michael Beckman, said Friday that he will probably appeal again. Davis is eligible for another parole hearing as soon as October. Beckman said Brown's decision was political and his stated rationale for continuing to keep Davis, now 70, behind bars would be "laughable if the consequences for my client weren't so devastating." Davis told a parole board in October 2012 that he had been accepted into two transitional programs in Los Angeles, including one that specializes in helping paroled murderers adjust. He said that if freed, contending with negative publicity would be likely to pose one of his biggest challenges. Parole hearing transcripts show that over the years, Davis gave conflicting accounts of his role in the murders he was convicted of and minimized his involvement in the Manson group. They also show that Davis has used the past four decades to earn a doctoral degree in religion, graduating summa cum laude, and completed vocational training in drafting and welding. He participated in therapy and self-help programs, married and fathered a child. Davis, 26 at the time of the murders, was convicted in 1972 for taking part in the killings of aspiring musician Gary Hinman and ranch hand Donald "Shorty" Shea, who also worked as a Hollywood stuntman. Details of Shea's killing, which had always remained murky, were further confused by Davis' recent assertion that it took place on a day and at a location that differed from prosecutors' claims. Another Manson family member, Steve "Clem" Grogan, was convicted along with Manson and Davis of killing Shea. In 1985, Grogan became the only Manson family member convicted of murder to win parole, after directing law enforcement to Shea's body.
