Paul Watkins Interview 2

Not sure who our caller is...they say Jenny... is it Ginny Gentry? Hey why doesn't Paul say that he went BACK to the Family?
Paul has an acid flashback two minutes in. Check it it is crazy. He looks stoned on the screen shots behind Reagan.
Caller two brings up Naval Intelligence...then Paul starts to blame it on OCD behavior then his ADD takes over- Sisters of Mercy??? Wtf?
Maureen then brings up Jim Jones... and Paul claims he knew people who knew him like what???? Then he mentions a script....then back to the drug addled ramble- guy cannot hold a thought.

Man that guy seems whacked.

I dunno if anyone else came of age in the late '80's, but the '12 step' rehab-industry peaked around then. I had some friends who were not really into drugs but were sent away for upwards of a year to rehabs. The rehabs bilked insurance companies, to the tune of like $20k per month. Eventually, the insurance companies caught on and the party ended.

Alot of the people in those rehabs and in that type of therapy are cultish.

His discussion of codependence and obsessive behavior is obsessive in and of itself. He went from one cult to another.

It's annoying listening to him trying to preach the word. 'What I'm here to do is blah blah blah blah recovery blah blah blah health epidemic blah blah blah therapy blah blah blah codependent.'

Hey meatpile I graduated from high school in 1987 and I remember very well an upsurge in 12-step clubs of this nature within my own peer group. There were kids in my class who never really did much partying but somehow got caught up in AA/NA clubs and would use all the same terminology you are referring to, the common psychobabble.

I remember we used to refer to some of these kids as being in the "12 step cult" because it really did seem like one. They became very distrusting and judgmental of all the other cliques in school and the mere mention of "beer" or "keg" or even "party" would result in raised eyebrows and pitches to join the 12-step clubs. Their own histories with drinking and/or drugs seemed to get exaggerated in the retelling, like getting drunk at the prom suddenly made them Drew Barrymore or The Million Little Pieces guy who got Oprah mad at him.

What kind of cancer did Watkins die of?

jollywest - I didn't see that he was hiding something. I saw him so focused on his addiction theories that he dismissed any discussion that distracted from that.

With Jenny- he immediately asked her, in a patronizing manner, if she'd had therapy. LOL. Didn't he call what he did with the family 'therapy'?

He was a failed cult leader.
